Recordings of Appropriated Wrought Iron Instrument Rituals (2015)
Performance; wrought iron railings; drum mallets
Short public performances on the streets of Manchester. 19th Century wrought iron railings were played as metallophones. They occurred regularly for a period of several weeks, unannounced and spontaneous. Coated in decades-old layers of paint and rust, the railings uneven length and thickness results in wavering tonalities and subdued resonance.
